In many mechanical applications, components cannot always be aligned with a perfectly positioned locating hole. Instead, the locking element must engage automatically as it reaches an edge, slot or groove. To meet these requirements, Elesa has developed indexing plungers with a chamfered pin, offering a practical solution that combines reliable positioning with faster operation and reduced manual intervention.
Automatic locking with chamfered pin indexing plungers
Unlike conventional indexing plungers, the GN 824 series features a square-section pin with a chamfered tip. This design allows the pin to retract automatically when it contacts an inclined surface or moving component by compressing the internal spring. As soon as the locking position is reached, the spring pushes the pin back into place, ensuring secure engagement without operator action.
The automatic engagement principle makes these plungers suitable for a broad range of industrial applications. In material handling and logistics, they provide quick and dependable locking of transport frames and carts. In packaging and automated machinery, they enable protective guards and access panels to close automatically with a snap action. They are also particularly effective in sliding systems, where locking is achieved solely through the movement of the component, improving positioning repeatability while reducing operating time..
360° adjustable pin orientation
A distinctive feature of the GN 824 range, available with threaded bodies from M12 to M20, is the possibility of adjusting the orientation of the chamfered pin to match the contact surface. After the plunger has been installed, the pin can be rotated through 360° using the set screw integrated into the locking ring.
To simplify assembly, a laser mark on the ring clearly indicates the direction of the chamfer, even when the pin is retracted, making accurate installation possible even in difficult-to-access mounting positions.
Designed for demanding applications
The chamfered pins are manufactured from hardened stainless steel to provide high resistance to wear and corrosion, ensuring reliable performance even under demanding operating conditions.
To satisfy different application requirements, the GN range includes several configurations:
Versions with rest position (-C and -CK): ideal where the indexing plunger must be temporarily disengaged by turning the knob through 90°
GN 724.1 and GN 724.4 series: designed for welded installations or alternative actuation methods, such as pull rings, making them particularly suitable for heavy-duty fabricated structures.
With this range, Elesa once again demonstrates its commitment to engineering solutions that enhance machine functionality. Every detail is designed to simplify operation, improve safety and provide reliable locking performance across a wide variety of industrial applications.
