Indexing plungers with chamfered pin

In mechanical applications, locking does not always occur in a perfectly aligned hole. In some cases, the component must engage automatically when meeting an edge or a groove. To address this requirement, Elesa offers indexing plungers with chamfered pin—components designed for users seeking operational speed and safety without the need for constant manual intervention.
Automatic engagement: locking without manual operation
Unlike standard models, GN 824 indexing plungers feature a square-section pin with a chamfered lead-in. This geometry enables smooth and automatic operation: when the pin comes into contact with an inclined surface or a moving profile, it retracts by compressing the internal spring and then snaps back into position once the locking seat is reached.
This automatic engagement solution is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. In logistics, for example, it ensures fast and secure locking of frames and transport trolleys during handling. In packaging and automation, it allows guards and access doors to close with a snap action, without manual intervention. It is equally effective in sliding mechanisms, where the locking function is activated mechanically through the simple movement of the component, improving both positioning accuracy and operating efficiency.
360° orientation for precise installation
One of the key technical features of the GN 824 series (with threaded body from M12 to M20) is the ability to orient the chamfered pin according to the contact surface. Thanks to a set screw positioned on the locking ring, the operator can rotate the pin by 360° after installing the plunger.
A laser marking on the ring indicates the orientation of the chamfer even when the pin is retracted, ensuring precise installation even in blind mounting positions.
Materials and variants for every requirement
To ensure maximum reliability under mechanical stress, the pins are made of hardened stainless steel, providing excellent wear resistance and corrosion protection.
Elesa also offers a range of configurations to meet different design requirements:
Versions with rest position (-C and -CK): ideal where the plunger needs to be temporarily disengaged by rotating the knob by 90°
Series GN 724.1 and GN 724.4: for applications requiring welding or alternative actuation systems such as pull rings, ideal for heavy-duty constructions.
Once again, Elesa demonstrates that excellence lies in the details. Providing a specific solution for every locking requirement means not only delivering a product, but ensuring a safer, faster and more efficient user experience across all applications.
